How to Keep Kids Entertained in Long Lines at Disney World

Disney World is magical, no doubt- but let's be real: the lines? Not so much! While you're dreaming of riding Space Mountain, your kids are melting down in a 45-minute queue for Peter Pan. But don't worry-you can survive the waits (and maybe even enjoy them) with a few tricks up your sleeve. Here's how to keep kids entertained in long lines without loosing your sanity.

  1. Turn to Technology (But Don't Overdo It)
        Disney's Play App
Download the Play Disney Parks app  before you even hit the parks. It's full of interactive games, trivia, and fun that's themed to the queue you're in- like building a droid in the Star Wars line or playing virtual games at Toy Story Mania.
        Movie Clips or Cartoons
A few downloaded episodes of a favourite Disney+ show can be a lifesaver. Just be sure to bring headphones- and maybe a backup battery.
        Short and Sweet Games
Keep a few kid-friendly apps on your phone for backup boredom busters.

       2. Pack a Line Entertainment Kit
Throw a few of these into your park bag:
  • Small colouring books + crayons
  • Wiki sticks or pipe cleaners for quiet, creative play
  • Mini Etch-a-sketch or travel-sized magnetic drawing boards
  • Fidget toys or pop-its (just make sure they don't get lost easily)
These low-tech toys can keep little hands busy without screens.

    3. Play Old-School Games
Sometimes, the classics are all you need:
  • I Spy- Great for queues with lots of visual detail (looking at you, Jungle Cruise)
  • 20 Questions- Theme it around Disney characters or movies
  • Would You Rather- Keep it silly: "Would you rather ride Space Mountain 10 times in a row or only eat Mickey pretzels for a week?"
  • Guess the Character- One person gives clues, everyone guesses. " I wear a bow and love polka dots" Easy and fun!
    4. Make a Disney Sing-Along
Start a low-key sing-along of Disney songs (as long as you're not disturbing others). Or challenge the kids to:
  • Finish the lyric
  • Name the movie the song is from
  • Guess the character who sings it
Bonus: It gets everyone hyped for the next ride.

    5. Get Moving (In a Small Space)
When the line isn't packed tight, try:
  • Simon Says-Keep it chill: "Touch your nose," "Spin in a circle," etc.
  • Stretch Break- Little kids especially need to move. Simple toe touches, arm circles, or standing yoga poses can help.
    6. Tell a Story- Together
Start a make-your-own Disney story. One person begins:
"Once upon a time, Mickey Mouse lost his shoe..." Then go around with each person adding a line. Silly? Yes. Memorable? Also yes.

Bonus Tips
  • Snacks= Distractions: Bring easy, non-messy snacks just for the lines. Crackers, gummies, trail mix-whatever keeps them happy.
  • Let Them Know What's Next: Sometimes just knowing how close they are helps. "We're halfway there!" goes a long way with kids.
  • Celebrate the line: Some queues (like for Rise of the Resistance or Haunted Mansion) are full-on experiences. Point out cool props, hidden Mickeys, and fun details to make the line part of the adventure.
Lines Don't Have to Be the Worst
With a little creativity (and a lot of snacks), you can turn wait times into bonding time. Plus, those goofy games and silly sing-alongs often end up being some of the moments your kids remember most. Seriously.
