Rainy Day Survival Guide at Disney World

Why You Shouldn't Let a Little Rain Ruin the Magic

Florida weather is wild- it can go from sunshine to downpour in the blink of an eye. But don't let the forecast freak you out! Some of our favourite Disney memories happened on rainy days. With the right mindset and a few smart tips, a soggy day at Disney can still be seriously magical (and way less crowded).

Here's how to make the most of your Disney World day when the skies open up.

1. Pack Rain Gear Like a Pro

Don't wait until you're soaked and buying overpriced ponchos at the gift shop. Here's what to throw in your park bag:

  • Ponchos or Rain Jackets ( bring extras for the kiddos!)
  • Flip flops or waterproof shoes (or pack dry socks)
  • Ziploc bags for your phone, wallet, and magic bands
  • Mini umbrella (great for stroller shade, too)
  • Stroller rain cover- absolute must-have for families with little ones
2. Know the Best Rain-Friendly Rides and Attractions
When it's raining, head straight for these indoor experiences:
        Magic Kingdom
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Mickey's PhilharMagic
  • Carousel of Progress (bonus: air conditioning and seats!)
  • Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
        EPCOT
  • Spaceship Earth
  • The Seas with Nemo and Friends
  • Soarin' (queue is indoors!)
  • Frozen Ever After
  • Gran Fiesta Tour (inside Mexico pavilion = shelter+ vibes)
        Hollywood Studios
  • Toy Story Mania
  • Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • Indiana Jones Stunt Show (check showtimes in the app)
  • Frozen Sing-Along (kids LOVE this one)
        Animal Kingdom
  • Festival of the Lion King
  • Finding Nemo: The Big Blue....and Beyond!

3. Hit the Interactive Queues & Hidden Gems
Rainy days are perfect for exploring queues that are almost attractions themselves. Try:
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train - interactive gems
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh -play areas
  • Play Disney Parks app- for line games and trivia
4. Slow Down and Savour the food
Use the rain as an excuse to take your time at:
  • A cozy quick-service restaurant (Cosmic Ray's has indoor space + live entertainment!)
  • A snack break under cover- hello, warm churros & Mickey pretzels
  • Character dining! Rain is the perfect time to do Chef Mickey's, Tusker House, or Cinderella's Royal Table
5. Take the Best Photos
Rain = reflections, moody skies, and empty walkways. Some of the coolest castle photos are taken in the rain with umbrellas or puddle reflections.
Pro tip: Clear ponchos+ bright umbrellas= adorable rain day family pictures.

6.What to Skip (or Save for Later)
  • Outdoor shows & parades are often canceled or scaled down. If you must see them check the My Disney Experience app for updates
  • Outdoor rides like Test Track, Kali River Rapids, and Big Thunder Mountain may close temporarily for safety.
7. Bonus: Take a Resort Break
If the rain turns into an all-day downpour and you need a breather:
  • Ride the Monorail loop and explore deluxe resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian)
  • Visit Disney Springs for shopping, snacks, or a movie
  • Go back to your resort for a pool break (yep, pools usually stay open in rain unless there is lightning)
Rain Can Mean....Fewer Crowds!
Here's the upside: Lots of guests leave when it rains. If you're geared up and ready, you can score shorter wait times, better ride access, and way less foot traffic in the parks.

Embrace the Magic in the Mess
Disney days aren't always picture-perfect- and that's okay. Sometimes the best stories come from the unexpected moments: dancing in the rain with your kids, sharing ponchos with strangers, or riding Pirates three times in a row because there is no line.
A little rain doesn't have to ruin your trip- it might just make it unforgettable. So throw on that poncho, grab a Mickey-shaped snack, and keep the magic going. After all, even Cinderella had to deal with a little storm before the ball.
