My Disney Experience
The very first question I ask when helping someone plan is; have you downloaded the MDE (My Disney Experience) app? This app allows you to use your phone as your ticket to get into the parks, it allows you to book your LL(Lightning Lane), it will show you wait times for the attractions, and so much more!
Lets go over some MDE basics. After downloading the app you will need to sign in. You can create an account or sign into an existing one if you have already made one on the website. Once logged in you can start exploring the app. From the app you can purchase park tickets, LL, mobile order food, reserve dining, enjoy all of your photos taken by Photo Pass! I recommend downloading it well before your vacation and start using some of the features so you are more comfortable using it while on your vacation. It will hold all of the information that you need for your trip, like showtimes, character meet & greets, park hours, extended hours, restroom locations and attraction locations. The map section on the app also will give you directions from your current location, or a location you choose (like Google maps!). The app will also give your an opportunity to join any virtual queues that Disney currently has. The new top attractions usually do not have a standby line, Disney instead offers a virtual queue. Currently there are 2 attractions at Disney World that offer virtual queue, Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy. The virtual queue is only offered on MDE. Along with MDE being a staple of every Disney trip, you need to also bring a way to keep your device charged for the day! I strongly recommend a portable charger to bring with you to the parks.
MDE also has a fun feature for if you drive and park at the parks! It is called Car Locator. It allows you to save your vehicle location when you park so you don't need to remember at the end of the day where the car is!
There is also a chat feature one MDE. This puts Disney Cast Members right at your fingertips! Any questions you have that you can't find answers to on your own you can ask there!
There is a section for Cast Compliments there also! If you have an experience with a Disney Cast Member, you can send a cast compliment for them. This will allow Disney to recognize their amazing staff members!
Once you are used to using the app, you will find it much easier to get around it when you need it in the parks. It is also a good tool to use when looking into planning a trip!
While having the app can make it seem like your not "living in the moment" with your family, it is very hard to have a great Disney vacation with out it these days. I found keeping my phone at arms reach tucked away until I needed it helped with that feeling a lot!
